Parkdale Food Centre is a Good Food organization located in Ottawa’s Hintonburg neighbourhood. All the programming we do is guided by our strong belief that good food is a human right. Good food, good mood! We use food as a tool to connect with others, and nurturing these connections in different ways contributes positively to the overall wellness of our community. In our youth programs, staff engage with youth to help them realize their power as Solutionaries! A Solutionary is a word we made up, but we define it as a creative problem-solver in the community -- someone who sees opportunities where others see problems. We engage with youth in a few different ways including through classroom visits and through multi-week youth placements. We aim to equip and empower youth to tackle BIG problems in their communities, food and beyond!

As the Youth Programs Coordinator, you will support the facilitation of existing programming as well as help to develop new, exciting and engaging programming that inspires children and youth to understand the complex and interconnected problems of poverty, health and food insecurity. You will lead all aspects of our solutionary workshops, including scheduling, delivery, supplies, logistics, deliverables and evaluation. You will also help guide students and cohorts throughout their placements at Parkdale Food Centre. Your position will be supported by our Youth Programs Manager. Within your role and our youth programs there are many opportunities to try new things in a supportive environment.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Facilitating social justice and food justice workshops on-site and off-site to diverse groups of children and youth from schools, after-school programs and summer camps
  • Implementing medium-term and short-term program evaluation tools

Additional expectations:
  • Provide safe onsite and offsite supervision of program participants
  • Create and maintain a supportive, anti-oppressive environment for youth by approaching issues with care and intention

  • Report to managers and seek support when needed.
  • Communicate professionally and honestly with the team
